For Immediate Release

KAREN DECROW, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN, WILL BE MISSED. SHE BELIEVED IN EQUALITY BETWEEN FATHERS AND MOTHERS.

CONTACT: Marc Angelucci, Vice-President, NCFM
PHONE NUMBER: 626-319-3081
EMAIL:  marcangelucci@hotmail.com

Karen DeCrow, former president of the National Organization for Women, has passed away at the age of 76. The National Coalition For Men would like to tip their fedoras to Ms. DeCrow for being one of the few leading feminists who outspokenly supported fathers’ rights and believed in equality across the board, not just equality in one direction.

One of Ms. DeCrow most recent articles was an op ed defending the rights of fathers. She stated: “For decades I have been urging equality between fathers and mothers. Although there has been progress in this direction, fathers still have a difficult time being recognized as equal parents.” (“We should cease thinking about men as the enemy of children and women,” Syracuse.com, 6/23/13.)

On other occasions Ms. DeCrow criticized the expectation that men pay for dates, stating: “How unfair it is that usually the financial responsibility for dates is on guys… I would think men would object simply on the grounds that it’s unfair; why should they have to pay the bill?”

Ms. DeCrow also supported men’s reproductive choices, stating:

“Justice therefore dictates that if a woman makes a unilateral decision to bring pregnancy to term, and the biological father does not, and cannot, share in this decision, he should not be liable for 21 years of support. Or, put another way, autonomous women making independent decisions about their lives should not expect men to finance their choice.”

We thank you, Ms. DeCrow, for your dedication to true equality. May you Rest in Peace.
