The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Report/Dismantling White Supremacy – How Male Supremacy Provided the Foundation for Hate in 2023, reads as follows: “This year, the SPLC documented nine male supremacist hate groups, including several abortion abolitionist groups, a popular misogynist incel community, and the National Coalition for Men.” Without a shred factual evidence, the SPLC labeled us a “male supremacist hate group,” an absurd, inflammatory, and defamatory label we categorically reject as a very woke falsehood.
For over four decades, NCFM has advanced gender equality, legal fairness, and the well-being of boys and girls, men and women, and their families through evidence-based advocacy, education, and relevant dialogue. The SPLC’s defamatory designation ignores the core of our mission and our many accomplishments in achieving equality for the sexes and conflates advocacy with extremism. Disagreement is fine, libel crosses the line.
The SPLC’s 2018-2019 website published a webpage entitled Male Supremacy, subtitled Males Supremacy is a hateful ideology advocating for the subjugation of women. It reads in part:
Often, these men’s rights advocacy groups, like the National Coalition for Men (NCFM), founded in 1977, and on whose board of advisors [Warren] Farrell sits, distort or cherry-pick statistics to indicate female privilege, blame women or create false equivalences between the oppression of men and of women, rather than simply seek to advance the cause of men and fathers. Groups like NCFM use litigation to challenge what they perceived as discrimination in favor of women and try to influence policy on domestic violence, sexual assault, divorce, and custody cases. In reality, they offered little help to men other than blaming women or advocating to deny women the structures that they did have to resort to discrimination or violence — one of the biggest grievances of the men’s rights movement, for instance, is the Violence Against Women Act in 1994.
We sent them a cease, desist and preserve evidence letter on May 31, 2019. As expected, the SPLC defended the misrepresentations.
In 2001, NCFM’s late Vice-President Marc Angelucci was invited to be an honoree on the SPLC’s Wall of Tolerance for his nonprofit work in mental health and homeless advocacy. The certificate is signed by Morris Dees, co-founder of SPLC and Rosa Parks (above). By then Marc was also an active and well-known MRA and NCFM member. When Marc learned of the SPLC’s 2018-2019 besmirching of NCFM, he was understandably incensed and told me he was sending the SPLC a letter demanding his name be removed from their Wall of Tolerance.
Marc became active in the men’s rights movement in 1997 during law school. He started the Los Angeles chapter of NCFM in 2001, which was one of our most active branches. A feature article about him appeared in the Los Angeles Times on February 22, 2001, titled “He’s Seeking a New Chapter in Attitudes Toward Men.” He filed a series of legal challenges focused on gender equity, including the landmark Woods v. Horton case and NCFM v. Selective Service System.
We have come full circle. The SPLC defamed us in 2023. Again, NCFM sent the SPLC a letter, DEMAND FOR RETRACTION NOTICE OF INTENT TO LITIGATE… (below). The SPLC sent a testy response (also below).
Others have sued — and are currently suing — the SPLC for similar defamatory publications. Perhaps it’s time for the SPLC to take tolerance more seriously and embrace broader-minded, less foolish behavior.
Marc was shot to death on July 11, 2020, by an unhinged attorney who was jealous of Marc’s success in advocating for gender equality.
Marc will forever be our Wall of Tolerance. We miss him deeply. Unlike the SPLC, he stood firmly for fairness, compassion, and truth — values we continue to uphold. Like Marc, we believe that one of the greatest grievances of the men’s rights movement is the Violence Against Women Act. It was drafted with good intent, but it remains blind to a painful reality: men suffer abuse too.

Angelucci was a f- hero.
The SPLC’s response letter is so flagrant and appaling we need to sue them as soon as possible. These people are shameless!
Great and classy Nadine Lewis as always though.
Unfortunately, the statute of limitations has lapsed. We have to wait for the next time the slander us.
I understand. Well if they do after this statement it will be obvious that they are hypocrites and don’t actually care to fight hate.
OUTSTANDING article and the letter written by Nadine is on point. Unfortunately, the SPLC will continue with thier drivel until they are successfully sued and loose millions.
In fact, IMO, the SPLC is iteself a ‘supremacy’ group meaning that they will vilify and disparage any person, group, or organization that the extreme radical unhinged woke and very vocal minority wants to silence.
Well said. Exactly right.
