NCFM NOTE: This is an excellent example of activism at work. If you see discrimination in the media send the culprit outlet and well written message without embellishments, malice or vitriol. Here, Mr. Manthey’s critical message was still published. Well done. Nice job Mr. Manthey.

Stop the sexist letters

Dear Editor:
.
I was hoping with a interim editor the misandy spewing from The Gazette would cease but I was wrong. In August you published a sexist letter to the Editor from Barbara Daugherty that claimed “the nomadic matrilineal societies always knew who the mother was and the father was not as important.”
.
This feminist myth goes like this: In a time before written records, society was centered around women. Women were revered for their mysterious life-giving powers, honored as incarnations and priestesses of the great goddess. They reared their children to carry on their line, created both art and technology, and made important decisions for their communities. In other words, women good; men bad.
.
In Cynthia Eller’s book, “The Myth of Matriarchal Prehistory: Why an Invented Past Won’t Give Women a Future,” she points out that “There is a theory of sex and gender embedded in the myth of matriarchal prehistory, and it is neither original nor revolutionary. Women are defined quite narrowly as those who give birth and nurture, who identify themselves in terms of their relationships, and who are closely allied with the body, nature, and sex—usually for unavoidable reasons of their biological makeup. This image of women is drastically revalued in feminist matriarchal myth, such that it is not a mark of shame or subordination, but of pride and power. But this image is nevertheless quite conventional and, at least up until now, it has done an excellent job of serving patriarchal interests.”
.
The irony of Sonoma Media Investments publishing endless full page ads reminding your readers how you “pledge to…oppose…sexism…and hate” when you publish letters and, in the case of your last editor, editorials that are misandrist exposes your blatant sexism against men and hypocrisy. In Daugherty’s case, she wishes for her Utopian future where society “returns to the more peaceful Earth honoring ways of the matrilineal matriarchal societies.” In other words. women good; men bad.
